Follow torch

Follow torch

Video Transcript

Hi kids!

Did you know that Edison adores the light?

In this lesson, we will see in practice Edison’s ability to detect the light and move towards the direction of the source of light!

But how does that work?

As we have said, Edison has two (2) light sensors (on the left and right side).

With those sensors, it can detect the light but he can also understand the direction this light comes from.

The barcode that you can find in the accompanying document “Resources”, titled “Follow torch” activates the corresponding program. With this program, the robot locates the direction from which the light of the torch comes and moves towards it.

Now, let’s make Edison read the barcode:

We place the robot on the right side, pointing at the barcode that the robot is going to scan...

We press the record button, which is round, three times. Edison will move straight ahead and will scan the barcode.

We have just activated the “Follow a torch” program! Now let’s see what our robot will do!

We will need a lens torch and a flat surface on which our robot will move.

Also, the room should be relatively dark.

We press the play button, which is a triangle, and with our torch, we target aim at the robot.

Once it senses the light, it will move towards that point.

By shaking moving the torch, we can determine the direction in which our robot will move.
