Hello guys!
Did you know that we can control our robot from far away?
Yes, yes, we can do that with the TV remote control!
As we have said, Edison has an infrared receiver. Exactly! Τhe TV remote has an infrared transmitter. So Edison can receive the infrared beam that the remote control is sending, and it can turn it into action:
let’s say it can move ahead or backwards, turn left or right.
But how does he know what action to do with the push of each button? We need to teach him.
So, let’s train our robot. We will need many barcodes, one for each action.
The barcodes can be found in the accompanying document with the title:
“Resources”.
To start with, let’s find out with which remote control button it will go straight:
We place the robot on the right side of the barcode with the title: “IR learn drive forward”, pointing at the barcode...
We press the record button, which is round, 3 times.
Edison will move straight ahead and will scan the barcode.
Once this is done, we take the remote control, aim it in the direction of Edison and press the button according to where we want our robot to go.
We choose whatever button we want!
I will select the button with the up arrow.
We press on it, target Edison, and once the characteristic sound is heard...
Edison has been trained!
Our robot now knows that by pressing the “up arrow” of the remote control it drives forward. Let’s try it!
We continue training the robot for the backwards movement, once again by
following the same steps:
We scan the barcode with the title “IR learn drive backwards”.
We press the button with the back arrow on the remote control. The robot has been now trained to go backwards!
We follow the same steps for twisting spinning right... and left... for turning right... and then left... for playing a beep sound... and playing a tune... Perfect!
Now our robot has become a remote control robot! Let’s play a little bit.
